Digipack - Marina and the Diamonds

Below you can see the photos in the digipak for Marina and the Diamonds album 'The Family Jewels' from beginning to end.

main photo - album cover

  • The white font majorly stands out, which is a good thing.
  • The background seems to be jungle-esk with different shaped leaves on it which is a very interesting element, however it doesn't relate to the album title which is confusing
  • Marina is seductively posing down the camera which suggests a more mature album

inside photo

  • The darkness in this photo suggests a dark/more mature element to the album (continuity from image 1)
  • It appears that Marina is imitating a gun with her hands - another potential dark side to the album
  • The slight cartoon effect on marina makes her appear to have a softer and more gentle/innocent look, which suggest a 'good girl gone bad' image

the CD compartment

  • The plainness of this nicely contrasts with the two images above, balancing the digipak out
  • The same font is used - continuity

The back cover

  • The words move around marinas head suggesting she is the most important object
  • Has a seductive feel to it as her face is heavily made up and she is wearing no clothes

Overview

I really like the slight cartoon effect on each one of the photos, it gives Marina a very photoshopped and young look, as well as making her appear more gentle and innocent, contradicting the style of the seductive/dangerous (gun gesture) images.

Starting with the font, it is continuous throughout each section of the digipak which works very well giving the product continuity. Another thing that works well is that Marina's style is kept similar throughout each one of the photos - her hair is down and she is wearing no clothes.

Another thing I really like about this is how the font moves around Marina, showing she is the most important person in shot - the words move around her, they don't go over her - emphasising her importance.

The digipak seems to have a really jungle-esk style however, which can be confusing to someone who isn't a fan of Marina's as it doesn't really correspond with the name of the album, however its aesthetic seems very fashionable and stylish - and is overall very interesting.

I do think the CD compartment could have had a more interesting background however the CD itself is a plain silver metallic colour, which I like as it balances out the colours and the content of the front and back covers.

I really like the simplicity of the first inside photo and how there are no distractions with words etc, so I will take inspiration from that when I make my own, I will also take inspiration from the faded effect of the photos as its an effect I really like and think would work well with the antique style I am going for.

The only main problem with this digipak is that apart from the fact she is young and fashionable, we don't know much else about marina or the album, no clues are given to us through the photos used.

To conclude, I really like this digipak, it represents fashion, style and art, which is an element I really like. The only thing I would change about it is the fact it doesn't create much meaning for the audience about what the album contains, and some other artists can do this very well.
