- People walking --> Norwich City
I plan on filming busy people walking around a city, I have chosen Norwich for this city as it is the city I live in and is therefore most practical. There are also some parts of Norwich that are quite scenic so I think filming in it would help the video keep an along an arty aesthetic - adding to the mise-en-scene.
- Memory box reminiscing --> A Dark/Dusty room
I don't really mind exactly where these scenes are filmed because I want the background of the shot to be dark, with the main focus on the older version of mollie pulling objects from her past outside of the memory box. This will add to the construction of mise-en-scene because if the focus is on older hands pulling photos of mollie out of a memory box, the audience will understand what is going on, and who the older woman is. I think if the room is dark and dusty it would add to the effect of the box being old and slightly 'battered', and would make the sole focus of the shots be on the box rather than any background.
- Mollies (character) Living Room --> Mollies Living room
Mollies living room is quite compact, homely and has a cosy feel to it so I decided that it would fit well with the general theme of my video being warm and heartfelt - as the living room and atmosphere it portrays are both of these things.
- Mollies (character) Kitchen --> My Kitchen
I have decided to use mollies kitchen for the main characters kitchen because it has a lot of natural light coming into it, which is ideal for filming. Its also quite cosy and compact which I think will create more of a family orientated feel as the family sit around the table, which is the feel I am trying to go for in the entire music video.
- Outside Mollies house --> Outside Mollies house
Mollie lives in quite a populated neighbourhood with many attached houses and cars/people about, the mise-en-scene would reveal she comes from quite a loving and homely neighbourhood where there are people and houses around her, rather than showing her going home to a miserable house in the middle of nowhere. Using mollies house for this is also very useful as we don't have to travel far to shoot there - she lives there - which is perfect.
- Field --> Field in Little Melton
The field in little melton is very big, its also quite isolated with not many people going to visit and spend their time there. Its an incredibly open space and is perfect in accordance with the image I pictured on the storyboard of Mollie and Matt romantically running around and having fun. I think this setting helps construct the mise-en-scene showing a sense of freedom and love, due to how open the space is (and shot) yet how close together the couple are within it. The natural lighting from the outside will also add an uplifting feel, which is perfect for these scenes.
- City shopping --> Norwich City
I will be filming all of the shopping scenes in Chapelfield Mall. Im using this mall because it has such a wide variety of stores to film in, also some stores may not allow filming however there will be ones that do, therefore its safer to use a mall as my location because there will always be a store I can film in. Its also a great location as both inside and directly outside there is a lot of space to film, for example I can film my characters walking in, using the escalators etc. The mall also helps to construct a mise-en-scene in my music video as it looks quite modern, and is full of natural, bright light - perfect for relaying an upbeat, uplifting and overall happy atmosphere during these scenes.
- City photoshoot --> Norwich Subway
The subway in norwich is absolutely full of art and expression, I really wanted to add an artistic element to my music video and using the subway is the perfect way to do so. I think its a particularly good location because of the context it is being used in, as the best friends are taking photos of themselves there - rather than generally hanging out (as that may seem quite odd!)
I think using the subway will help construct the mise-en-scene by adding a fashionable, artistic and young feel to my music video, not only adding to the visual elements of it, but by portraying the personalities of the two best friends in it.
- Park --> Park in Wymondham
Im using this park for a number of reasons, firstly, it is very practical as it is just around the corner from where I live. Secondly, it is quite a new park with a more modern than old feel to it. Finally, it is a very green colourful park, it doesn't look beaten as some parks do with dead grass etc, it looks like a park children would want to play in. This helps construct the mise-en-scene for the scenes in this location as it reflects a happy/energetic atmosphere.
- Street walking to travel to uni on --> Bluebell road before the UEA
The reasoning behind me choosing this location is purely because it is the road leading up to the university so there should be many other university students walking along it, which is what I want. I think this would help construct a mise-en-scene as it would show many other people are going through the same thing as Mollie, showing she is definitely not alone - also making the narrative more relatable.
- Uni --> Norwich's UEA
There's no better place to shoot scenes of a university, than at an actual university. The UEA would be perfect for this because there is a very big sign for the uni outside it, which I think would be great to use in shot as it makes it obvious to the audience where the character is going.
- Mollies Uni room --> Mollies Bedroom
Mollies bedroom is very small and compact, with a lot of bits and bobs around it like photos etc, which is why I think it would make a perfect 'fake university room'. The setting helps construct the mise-en-scene as it portrays the 'student life' in that she now can't have many luxuries anymore, and has many things from home (like photos on the walls) in the room for comfort - showing she is close with her friends and family and is quite a homely person.
- Mollies Home Bedroom --> The Other Half of Mollies Bedroom
The other half of mollies room has a lot less 'nik-naks' in it, and therefore looks more spacious. I think it would be good if I could shoot and edit the footage so that it looks like the two locations are in fact two separate rooms, as this would also be more practical.
