Below are photos of each part of Maroon 5's Digipak for their album 'Overexposed'.
Front Cover
- The vibrant colours suggest a fun album with upbeat songs
- The monkeys face puts questions in the audiences mind, its creative and enticing, why is it there?
- The many different faces add an interesting element
Inside Photo
- Pink is a very vibrant and fun colour
- There seems to be a theme of animals as we can see a bird and bear, tying in with some of their wilder lyrics perhaps
CD Compartment
- I like the fact Maroon 5 have decided to go for black and white for their CD as its a major contrast to the other two images, it balances out all of the colour.
- The way they have decided to make the hole in the cd an eye pupil is very interesting, almost creepy, adding a mysterious effect
Back Cover
- This cover seems more boring in comparison to the other images we have seen
- There is a lot of white space that could have been filled
- The font has a continuity element as it is the same in each image.
I really like the pop of colour in this digipak, as not only does it make it stand out on the shelves, but it reflects the personality of the album, telling us it is upbeat and fun (which it is). Something that works well with this album is how well it attracts the eye's attention, the photos aren't obvious, they need a second look for the individual to figure out what is going on. For example, the front cover appears to have a monkey on it, and the CD compartment is actually an eye - things you may not notice at a first glance. The inside photo is also vibrant and fun, continuing on with the theme.
The only thing I don't like about this digipak is the back cover, it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the images and its quite dull - however you could say this is to balance out the vibrancy of the other images.
I do like the continuity in the font however as on each part of the digipak, this remains the same.
I will definitely take note, and inspiration from the techniques Maroon 5 have used to attract attention and make their digipak stand out, however I personally don't think a colourful digipak would be very fitting with my song choice for the single. Overall, I do really like this digipack and I think it works well with Maroon 5's image.
